In January 2004, the RUC Benevolent Fund Management Committee dealt with: A number of requests for grants, and requests for interest free loans. The main criterion used by the board is \'financial hardship \'. These requests came from serving members, retired members and RUC /PSNI widows. Each case was carefully by the board considered on its individual merits. Clearly as this is a most sensitive and confidential area, no further details will be published. The Management Committee then considered applications to attend the North Region Convalescence Homes. The main criteria is \'convalescence \', were the individual will be able to avail of the physiotherapy facilities at the Convalescence Homes. Unfortunately, as there are now so many applications, the management committee has been forced to give priority to people who will actually use the facilities, for physiotherapy. Essentially this means that people applying with stress or anxiety (who will not use any of the physiotherapy resources), can no longer be supported, unless there are exceptional circumstances. A number of applications were considered. Each application was carefully considered: taking into consideration; the comments of the GP, the need for physiotherapy, and the number of previous visits. It has been designed and created by the RUC Benevolent Fund Management Committee to provide information about the Fund, and the important work carried out by the Management Committee. All future references to the \'Fund \' relate to the \'RUC Benevolent Fund \'. Introduction It is accepted, worldwide, that the Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross, [RUCGC] was the main stabilizing force that provided the conditions for the \"Belfast Peace Agreement \". Sadly over the years in providing that crucial stability, many police families lost their loved ones and members of the RUCGC suffered serious injury. Indeed, current members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) continue to endure serious injury and threat. The RUC Benevolent Fund supports ex members of the RUCGC, police widows, injured and disabled officers, as well as members of the PSNI who find themselves in financial hardship or difficulty. In all instances a case of need must be identified. Charity The Royal Ulster Constabulary Benevolent Fund is a charity that aims to address the most deserving cases. Please consider the work we do as outlined in the recent news section and upcoming events. All the requests that come before the Management Committee are confidential and each case is very carefully considered on its merits. Funds As we are a charity, the work of the Fund depends on voluntary donations. All contributions, great or small, are most appreciated. If you or your team wish to support the Fund we can be contacted as follows: RUC Benevolent Fund PFNI, 77 - 79 Garnerville Road BELFAST BT4 2NX Tel: 028 9076 4215 [International 44 28 9076 4215] E-Mail The next RUC Benevolent Fund Management Committee will meet in January 2004.
